Artist Information

Kinvara Plein Air 2025 is a plein air painting festival based in Kinvara and other nearby painting locations in south county Galway and in the Burren, Co Clare.

The KPA25 team wish you an enjoyable and successful experience as you develop your craft while participating in workshops or paint outs, contribute to the exhibition and join us in the social activities arranged over the bank holiday weekend.

Terms and conditions

By registering for KPA25 you accept these Terms and Conditions

  • By participating in the KPA festival, you are agreeing to abide by all rules, decisions, and instructions that are communicated to you by the KPA organisers. Their decision in all matters is final. All participants must be at least 18 years of age.

On arrival, you will receive a welcome pack and a personalised lanyard which must be worn while participating in workshops and paint-outs. These can be collected in the KPA Hub, or will be distributed at your first workshop. Participants in workshops will be provided with KPA branded high-viz jackets to be worn for the duration of the workshop, so your tutor can identify you and provide guidance as necessary.

Paint-outs will be organised each day in designated locations, led by a local or guest artist. Participants will be provided with a map of potential locations. The location for paint-outs each day will be confirmed via the KPA WhatsApp group.

Registering for KPA25 means that you accept that the organizers and/or their agents can take photographs/video of you and your work for the purpose of promoting the KPA through websites and social media and in print media. None will be used for commercial or merchandising purposes without your permission.

Participating artists allow the use of their contact details including email and phone numbers to be used for the purposes of communication regarding the KPA Festival on all messaging applications. This information will not be made available to any other 3rd party.

Kinvara is a plastic-free village. Plein air artists leave no trace, so please make sure to take away all refuse with you and dispose of it responsibly. Please use reusable water bottles in lieu of plastic bottles. Refilling will be possible in workshop venues.

All paintings must be painted on location from observation without printed photographic references, within the general areas indicated for the KPA25 workshops and paint-outs. For the Charity Paint-out, artists present their blank supports (canvas, boards, paper, etc.) for stamping at the commencement of the paint-out.

Artists must at all times be courteous and mannerly when dealing with fellow artists, the public, and organising committee or persons acting on behalf of the committee.

Submissions for the Charity Paint-out are juried by a team appointed by the organisers. Their decision in making these awards is final. A maximum of one award will be made to any artist.

  • Before setting up to paint, please take time to assess the potential hazards that your location may present. Please ensure that you carry and site your equipment in a safe manner for yourself and others. Do not block footpaths or exits; leave room for others to pass without stepping onto the road. Keep well away from the edge of the quay. Alert a KPA25 steward in the event of any accident and follow his/her instructions.

Kinvara Plein Air or KAVA bears no responsibility for loss or injury to persons or property arising from participation in this event.

The Health and Safety plan is available for inspection at the KPA Hub.

  • The spirit of plein air painting is very much to be out in the landscape or on the street, painting outdoors. Be prepared and dressed for all possible weather conditions in Ireland in June. All workshops will have a back-up indoor venue in the event that it is not possible to paint outdoors, which may happen but most likely for part of the day only. These spaces are for the use of workshop participants only.

In the event of rain or inclement weather, it is your decision and responsibility whether you continue painting. There will be some overhead cover available in Kinvara village or you may make your own ad hoc arrangements to work under cover as best you can, e.g., doorways can be useful but always get permission from the owner where appropriate before you begin. Likewise, if you wish to paint a pub or café interior, please check with the manager first. Finally, you may resort to painting from a parked car, but that again is entirely at your own risk.
